Residential Alterations and Renovations Christchurch
Overview
Christchurch homeowners Allan & Megan loved the location, size and layout of their family home, but the exterior look was dated and some aspects were in need of repair. With intentions to stay long term, they sought Brewer Builders’ help to embark on an extensive residential alterations and renovations.
Build Specs
The most obvious and striking of the changes is the new Hermpac vertical cedar weatherboards replacing the old plaster wall cladding. Amongst other upgrades, roof tiles were replaced with modern rib profile metal roofing, some dormers were replaced with skylights, various questionable roof details were vastly improved, and the awkward-shaped upper deck was replaced with a wider, more open and visually appealing one that ensures it will be used far more often.
Whilst the interior was left relatively untouched, this project was much more than just an exterior facelift, it was also a thermal performance overhaul. Removing roof and wall claddings (except the stonework) offered the rare opportunity to significantly increase insulation in these areas. The single glazed windows were also replaced, with new thermally broken double glazed ones a great improvement.
